My First Blog
Why I am writing this blog? As a General Physician, in London, Ontario, Canada, with a particular interest in talking to and helping newly diagnosed breast cancer patients, I am trying to reach out with my thoughts and ideas. To that end, I started a project called FACE IT.
If you are a newly diagnosed breast cancer patient, I can imagine that you are afraid and anxious.
I read a mathematical equation from Chip Conley's book, Emotional Equations, that I think will clarify how I can help you.
ANXIETY = UNCERTAINTY X POWERLESSNESS
Well, right now, both of these items to the right of the equal sign, are happening to you. I have a knack for helping with these two things.
Let's use some made up numbers for fun, to get an idea about this.
Let's say that
Uncertainty is the number 6 and Powerlessness is the number 8.
6 x 8 = 48
How do I decrease your anxiety, ie make the number 6 or the number 8 lower?
For the number 6, I can help you interpret your pathology report. That's right. You asked for a copy of your pathology report, and most of it seems like Latin. I can interpret the results in a straightforward, easy-to-understand way. I can expedite your results or referrals, which will make you more certain. I can answer your questions, and clarify your situation, so that you are in a better situation to know where you are right now. I get give you the tools to help you get through this.
So, that 6 will be a 4, or less. Well, 4 x 8 = 32 Voila, less Anxiety.
What about Powerlessness? Through my experiences over the last 15 years, I can help turn Fear, Anxiety, and Confusion into Empowerment.
How?
By teaching you, using pictures, a 3D model, and taking the Time to make you know that you can handle it all. I can also empower your loved ones to be of real, purposeful helpful to you. I can give you hope.
I have Tips & Tricks, and To Do's and Take aways, to prepare you every step of the way.
Now, that 8 may be a 6 or less. So,
4 x 6 = 24 So your anxiety is now 50% less!!! Isn't math fun!
When you are less anxious, you can absorb more information. You will be receiving a lot of information. What you need now is understanding, and seeing the same information in different ways. You will see that there are things that are POSITIVE about this situation, as hard as that may seem to be right now.
Your diagnosis tells a story, but only you know your own story. Your story is completely unique to you, and only you.
As I have said before, this is a bump in the road. Ok, maybe a pothole, but NOT a Sinkhole!!
There IS light at the end of this tunnel.
This is my chosen path. to turn your Fear, Anxiety, and Confusion into Empowerment.
There is Hope everywhere. We need hope in life. In fact, Allan K. Chalmers said:
"The Grand essentials of Happiness are Something to Do, Something to Love, and Something to Hope for"
Hope never abandons you, you abandon it.
Hope is important because it can make the present moment less difficult to bear. If we believe that tomorrow will be better, we can bear a hardship today.
I can help with that, too.
You can have the certainty that there Will be a time when this is behind you.
I can help you to prepare for surgery, if that is what you will be having.
If you are going to have chemotherapy before surgery, or after, I can help with that, too.
I can help you deal with radiation questions, too.
Any way you look at it, I can help make it better and instill hope.
That is what I offer you.
I hope you will contact me, through http://www.faceitlondon.com/
